TROY, N.Y. – Castleton's women's soccer team and Rensselaer were tied at 1-1 heading into the second overtime before Dali Alarian netted the game-winner just 46 seconds into the extra frame to hand the Spartans a heartbreaking, 2-1 defeat this evening at Renwyck Field.

The Engineers outshot Castleton 20-3 in the contest, while also holding the edge in corner kicks by 18. Mallory Costello scored the lone goal for the Spartans, as they dropped to 3-5 overall. RPI, meanwhile, improves to 4-3-2 on the season with the victory.

Castleton wasted little time to take the first lead of the contest, as Costello scored her eighth goal in as many games just inside the one-minute mark to make it 1-0. Nicole Wershoven collected a cross inside the box before laying the ball off to Costello, who slotted it home to put the away side in front by one.

That lead didn't last long, however, as Coley Mowder tallied her first score of the season in the 11th minute to even the contest. Jessica Binkowski made one of her game-high three saves to deny Alarian's header, but Mowder was there to finish the rebound and bring the game back to level terms at one.

With the game tied, the Engineers controlled the remainder of the first half, pressuring the Castleton defense with seven shots, but the visitors held strong to maintain the even, 1-1 affair heading into the break.

Following a scoreless second half, neither team was able to find the back of the net again until the second overtime when Alarian scored the game-winner at the 100:46 mark. Just 46 seconds into the second extra frame, Alarian received a pass from Cori Winslow before finishing a strike from 25 yards into the upper right corner of the net to seal the 2-1 victory for RPI.

Binkowski turned in another solid performance despite the loss for Castleton, producing three saves in 100:46 minutes of play. Tori Riopelle, meanwhile, captured the win after allowing just one goal for the Engineers.

The Spartans are back in action this Saturday at 7 pm, as they host the Johnson St. Badgers in North Atlantic Conference action at Spartan Field for Homecoming Weekend.
