SARATOGA, N.Y. – After trailing for the majority of the game, Derek Gingera scored with just 4.6 seconds left in regulation to lift the Spartans to a come-from-behind, 4-3 victory over the Skidmore Thoroughbreds on Saturday afternoon at Saratoga City Rink.

Brian Greene led the offense with two goals and Trevor Hanna chipped in two assists, as the Spartans capitalized on three power play opportunities to pick up their third consecutive victory. With the win, Castleton improves to 10-14 overall and 7-9 in the conference, while the Thoroughbreds fall to 4-18-3 (3-14-1 ECAC East) on the season.

Just over three minutes into the opening frame, Skidmore found the back of the net when Zach Arden grabbed his second goal in as many games to give the hosts an early 1-0 lead.

That advantage didn't last long, however, as the Spartans leveled the score at one just over a minute later. At the 4:39 mark, Bart Moran and Charles Bando were credited with assists after providing the service for Brian Wadsworth's second goal of the season.

The Thoroughbreds reclaimed the lead at the 8:39 mark in the first when Connor Pelkey's shot through traffic beat the Spartans' Ryan Mulder, and just over seven minutes later, Anthony Bird slotted the puck home to give the hosts a 3-1 advantage.

Castleton found an answer just over the halfway point in the second period after Brian Greene netted his first goal of the contest. On a power play opportunity, the senior defenseman finished a shot top shelf to cut the visitors' deficit back to one with 9:57 remaining in the frame.

After being held scoreless for more than 27 minutes of play, Greene grabbed his second goal of the contest and seventh of the season to even the game at three. With a one-man advantage, Hanna delivered a pass to Greene in front of the net, and the senior knocked it home to make it 3-3 with just 2:22 remaining in the final frame.

Just over two minutes later, the Spartans took advantage of another Thoroughbreds penalty to complete the comeback, as Derek Gingera's goal with 4.6 seconds remaining propelled the Spartans to a 4-3 victory, securing the season sweep over Skidmore.

In net, Mulder picked up his seventh win of the season and fifth in his last seven starts after turning in a 21-save performance. His counterpart, Jack McDonald, allowed four goals with 23 saves while suffering his 17th loss on the year.

Castleton finishes its regular season on Monday at 5 pm when its plays a makeup game against the Southern Maine Huskies at Spartan Arena.
