Box Score PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Castleton's men's soccer team had its three-game winning streak snapped this afternoon, as Nick Rutherford scored with just a half hour remaining in regulation to hand Plymouth St. a 1-0 victory.
The Spartans were outshot in the contest 16-9, but held the edge in corners 11-2. Castleton now stands a 8-3-1 overall after dropping its first contest in its last nine matches, while the Panthers improved to 5-3-1 in the winning effort.
After a scoreless opening frame, the hosts took the lead in the 60th minute thanks to Rutherford's fifth goal of the season. With the ball inside the box, the sophomore forward finished a strike across the face of the net to hand Plymouth St. a 1-0 lead.
Castleton made a late push for an equalizer, but failed to capitalize on any of its opportunities in the waning minutes of play, as the Panthers claimed a 1-0 victory.
Amir Pasic played all 90 minutes in net, producing five saves and allowing just his fifth goal of the season in the losing effort. Felix Lindeberg, meanwhile, captured his fifth win of the year and second shutout of the year with two saves.
The Spartans return to the pitch this weekend when they travel to Maine for North Atlantic Conference action. The squad faces Maine-Farmington on Saturday at 3 pm before finishing the weekend on Sunday at 2:30 pm against Thomas.
