CASTLETON, Vt. – The Spartans dropped Colby-Sawyer from the ranks of the unbeaten in the North Atlantic Conference with an impressive 2-0 victory in Spartan Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Chargers were 7-0 in the conference entering the contest and had outscored their opponents 39-5 over the span, but they were held scoreless by Castleton, with the home team holding a 24-13 advantage in shots. Colby-Sawyer dropped to 7-1 in the NAC and 9-6 overall while the Spartans improved to 11-5-1 and 6-1 in conference play.

Junior Paul Phillips scored the first goal of the evening and assisted on the second to lead the team. Amir Pasic made five saves in net to preserve the team's tenth shutout of the year.

Neither team could get on the board in the first half, though both had a few chances. Castleton had multiple headers in the box but couldn't get one past Shane Sacks in net as he made six saves in the period. The Spartans also had five corners compared to zero for the Chargers.

In the second, Phillips gave Castleton the lead at 66:04. Following a foul, the junior took a free kick from 35 yards out and sent it bending into the far corner of the net, past the outstretched hand of Sacks for the 1-0 advantage.

Just 1:35 later, Phillips put another shot on net and the ball was misplayed by Sacks and bounced off his hands. Jake Tietgens came in from the wing and got a touch on it to move around Sacks, before firing it into the back of the net.

The defense did the rest, holding the Chargers scoreless for the last 22 minutes to snap their six-game win streak. Sacks took the loss in net for Colby-Sawyer, making nine saves while allowing a pair of goal.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they host Husson at 3:30 pm in a crucial conference matchup.
