CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton started strong but couldn't match Husson's impressive three-point shooting as the Eagles stretched their lead past 30 in the second half on the way to an 88-60 victory over the Spartans on Friday evening in Glenbrook Gym.

Husson connected on 14 shots from beyond the arc, shooting 45.2 percent from downtown and 44.2 percent overall to improve to 14-3 and 10-1 in North Atlantic Conference action. Castleton outrebounded the Eagles 42-41 but went just 4-for-20 from beyond the arc and hit on 39.7 of its shots overall to fall to 6-4 in conference play and 9-8 overall.

Chad Copeland led the Spartans with 12 points, six rebounds and two assists but was unable to score in the second half. Carnelius Green added 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks while Pavin Parrish finished with six points, six rebounds and one assist. Luke Czaplewski added seven points off the bench in the second half.

Trevon Butler was locked in, going 5-for-5 from three and scoring 21 points in just 19 minutes of action. Raheem Anderson made four triples and had 21 points to go with five rebounds while Mitch Worcester did a bit of everything with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Spartans jumped out to a 6-2 advantage in the opening three minutes on a layup by Carnelius Green. Husson responded with a run of its own and a shot from beyond the arc by Aaron Willis gave the Eagles at 10-9 lead at 13:55. Copeland followed with six straight points for a 15-10 lead, but a 9-2 spurt put Husson back in front, 19-17 with 8:45 left.

Parrish gave the Spartans a 21-19 advantage 43 seconds later, but the Eagles took control with the next 16 points, capped off by a three from Willis with 4:26 remaining for a 35-21 lead. Castleton cut it to ten eventually, but Butler made a pair of three throws with 77 seconds left and Copeland missed a tough layup at the end of the first half for a 40-28 score at the break.

Green pulled the Spartans within ten, 42-32, in the first minute of the second half, but a 7-0 Husson run pushed the lead to 49-32. Parrish brought Castleton back within 15 but the Eagles used a 9-2 spurt to grab a 58-36 advantage with 14:09 remaining. The Spartans couldn't get any closer than 20 the rest of the way as both coaches emptied their benches and the lead climbed as high as 33 before Husson finished with the 28-point victory.

Castleton returns to action tomorrow when the team hosts Maine Maritime at 1 pm.
