Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – The matchup was as advertised between the top two teams in the conference once again but this time it was top-seeded Colby-Sawyer that came out on top as they won the 2014 NAC Championship with 1-0 victory over Castleton on Saturday at Kelsey Field.
For the sixth straight time the matchup between the two teams came down to a single goal as the Spartans were held scoreless despite outshooting the Chargers 10-5.
Castleton had a number of chances in the opening half but couldn't get a shot past Karley Hamilton as the team finished with an 8-1 shot advantage and a single corner kick.
In the second half the Chargers received the only goal they needed in the 56th minute. Kelsey Hamilton grabbed possession and dribbled it inside the 18 before ripping a shot into the far corner past a diving Jessica Binkowski.
Castleton went on the offensive and in the final ten minutes put another forward up top, but the Colby-Sawyer defense repeatedly cleared it out of harms way as they held on for their second straight NAC Title.
Hamilton was solid in net, making six saves to earn the win while Binkowski took the loss with three saves between the pipes.
Juniors Mallory Costello and Jess Phillips were named the the All-Tournament Team along with senior Allie Vachon.
