Saratoga Springs, N.Y. - The Castleton Spartans fell in walk-off fashion for the second consecutive game, dropping their contest on Thursday, Apr. 25 to Skidmore 6-5 in 11 innings.

Tyler Lord drove in Cameron Curler for the game-tying run in the top of the eighth, but the Spartans failed to take the lead, forcing the game to extra innings, where they fell on a walk-off single by Skidmore's Geoff Green that drove home Matty Tatkow to end the game.

Adam Greenlese started for the Spartans on the mound, going six innings deep and allowed four runs, three earned. Derek Osborne allowed a run in one inning of work before Castleton went to Patrick Riley who pitched 3.1 innings allowing just one run, but took the loss in the 11th.

Lord and Joe Borowski each notched two hits and an RBI, while Macyn Clifford had a team-high two runs driven in. Matt McNamee, Ryan Zielinski, Connor Hoagland, and Curler each had a hit apiece for the Spartans as well.

Castleton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on an RBI groundout by Curler that drove home McNamee. Skidmore answered with two runs in the bottom of the third before the Spartans could respond in the top of the fourth. Joe Borowski scored on a Skidmore error, and Curler drove in his second RBI of the game on another fielder's choice to make it 3-2 Spartans.

The Spartans extended their lead on an RBI single by Borowski in the top of the fifth, making it 4-2, but the Thoroughbreds had a response. In the bottom of the frame, Skidmore notched two runs to tie the game. With runners on second and third, Erik Watkins ripped a double, tying the game at 4-4.

Skidmore took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when Mike LaVita slipped an RBI single up the middle, before the Spartans tied it on Lord's eighth inning RBI fielder's choice. In the bottom halves of the eighth and ninth innings, Patrick Riley retired six of the seven batters he faced to force the game into extra innings.

In the tenth, Riley allowed the leadoff runner on base, but after a sacrifice bunt, the pitcher forced Skidmore's Casey Quinn to line into an inning-ending double play. After the Spartans fell in order, Riley came back to the mound for his fourth relief inning, allowing a walk, a hit, and a run. Despite retiring 10 of the 12 batters he faced, Riley took the tough-luck loss.

Bobby Stafutti earned the win for the Thoroughbreds after tossing a scoreless inning of relief in the eleventh. Leejay Pollachi led Skidmore with three hits and two runs with a run driven in.

The loss drops the Spartans to 23-9 on the season, and marks only the second time this season that they have lost consecutive games. The squad will resume action on Saturday, Apr. 27 when they travel to Lyndon State for a doubleheader against the Hornets.
