Box Score Plymouth, N.H. - Castleton conceded an early goal and failed to recover, falling to Plymouth St. 1-0 on Tuesday night in Plymouth. The Spartans suffered their third straight loss for the first time since the beginning of the 2009 campaign.
Plymouth St. forward Julie Behan put the Panthers ahead in the 13th minute with a goal off a cross from Panthers' midfielder Laura Davis. The goal squeaked past Jessica Binkowski to put the home team up 1-0 in the early going.
Castleton outshot Plymouth St. the rest of the way in the first half, but couldn't crack Panthers goalie Annaliese Schmidt and trailed 1-0 at the half.
In the second frame, Castleton continued their offensive pressure, outshooting the Panthers in the second half 7-3, but could not beat Schmidt for the equalizer. In a seven-minute span between the 71st and 78th minute Castleton had several opportunities, including shots from Paige Howk and Mallory Costello, but to no avail.
Schmidt finished with eight saves to earn the win in net for the Panthers, while Binkowski turned away two shots in the loss. Castleton falls to 10-7 on the season with their third consecutive loss. They will look to rebound with a pair of North Atlantic Conference contests this weekend, visiting Thomas on Saturday, Oct. 26 and Maine-Farmington Oct. 27 to finish the regular season.
