Spartans Fall to Colby-Sawyer 76-67

New London, N.H. – Castleton mounted a late comeback but it wasn't enough as Colby-Sawyer held on for the 76-67 victory over the Spartans in North Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. 

The Spartans trailed by ten at the half and got as close as three in the second, but ultimately dropped to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in NAC play. The Chargers, meanwhile, improved to 5-8 overall and 5-2 in conference action. 

Castleton shot just 33.3 percent from the field in the game, though the team made 12-of-36 from beyond the arc. The Spartans forced 18 turnovers, but the Colby-Sawyer shot 40.4 percent overall and outrebounded the visitors 45-37. 

Logan White led all scorers with 23 points, including six shots from downtown. Jeremy Odena added 12 points and three rebounds while Tyler Ackley finished with 11 points and three assists. 

Mike Dias led the Charger offense with 16 points and seven rebounds, including six on the offensive end. Kyle Nelson added 14 points and Koang Thok chipped in with ten points and four rebounds. 

Castleton went on top 2-0 after a pair of free throws on the game's first possession. The Chargers responded with a 15-1 spurt over the next 3:21 capped by a Thok trey to take a lead that they would not surrender.  The Spartans cut the deficit to a bucket with 7:23 left in the first after an 11-2 run ended with a White three-pointer. Colby-Sawyer was able to rebuild its lead with an 8-0 run over the final three minutes of the frame and held a 40-30 edge at the break. 

The Colby-Sawyer advantage ballooned to 18, 2:12 into the second half after a jumper from Nelson and a pair of three-pointers from sophomore Zach Bean. Castleton began to chip away at the Chargers lead and eventually cut the deficit to three 61-58 with 7:10 left. A Dias layup and five points from junior Cody Addison pushed the home team back on top 68-58, which helped secure a 76-67 victory. 

The Spartans return to action on Tuesday when they face second-ranked Middlebury at 7 pm in Glenbrook Gym.
