Box Score

Newton, Mass. - The Spartans' youth movement was in full effect on Sunday as eight of the team's ten goals came from first-year players in Castleton's 10-2 drubbing of Becker on Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of Lasell Kick-Off Tournament.

Freshman Mallory Costello (Vernon, N.J.) deposited a career-high four goals to lead the scoring binge. She also became the first freshman to score four times in a game since Courtney Chadburn accomplished the feat twice as a first-year in 2008.

Classmate Kaleigh Newton (Morrisville, Vt.) was equally impressive in what was her collegiate debut. She got the start in net and played the first 61:32, making two saves and allowing a single goal. Newton then moved to the field and scored the Spartans' ninth goal of the game and assisted on the tenth, lofting a corner kick into the box for the waiting Hannah Corkum (Manchester, Vt.).

It didn't take long for Castleton to get on the board, as Costello registered a natural hat trick in the game's first 20 minutes. Sophomore Jenna Bostwick (Pembroke, Mass.) added a goal in the 25th minute to push the lead to 4-0.

Becker broke through in at the 32:58 make and went into the half trailing 4-1.

The second half was all Spartans as Costello once again opened up the scoring, this time in the 54th minute. Freshman Emily Osmer (Wallingford, Vt.) found the back of the net less than a minute later and Halie Roberge (Southington, Conn.) made it 7-1 at the 56:01 mark.

Alyssa Mora (South Brunswick, N.J.) added a goal in the 62nd minute for the seven-goal lead. The Hawks got their second goal in the 71st minute, but Newton and Corkum finished off the scoring for the 10-2 final.

Newton got the win in net as she played 61:32 before classmate Sarah Shilstone (Deer Park, N.Y.) took over for the final 28:28. Shilstone allowed the final goal and made three total saves.

Castleton returns to the pitch on Wednesday when they travel to Plattsburgh St. for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Cardinals.
