1/27/2012 12:00:00 AM

RUTLAND, Vt. Nick Lazorko (Rockwall, Texas) scored a pair of goals and handed out two assists to aid the fourth-ranked Castleton State College Spartans in a 7-0 ECAC East win over visiting Saint Anselm Friday evening at Spartan Arena.

After spending nearly two months between home games, Lazorko gave the home crowd something to cheer about just 4:03 into the contest, lighting the lamp for the 16th time this season. Ben Schoeneberger (Vernon, Conn.) made a circle-to-circle pass across to Lazorko who one-timed it past Hawk netminder Robert Kang (Glen rock, N.J.) for the early lead.

Just less than two minutes later, Schoeneberger set up Ross Herzog (Wainwright, Alberta) for his first goal of the season, giving the Spartans a 2-0 lead, which they would carry into intermission.

Lazorko made it 3-0 at the 7:36 mark of the second period, sending home a wrister set up by Ryan Frost (Fullerton, Calif.) and Josh Harris (Torranca, Calif.).  Castleton pushed its lead to 4-0 with just over four minutes left in the period when Schoeneberger sent home a slap shot from the blue line for his 13th goal of the season.
Castleton tacked on three more in the final period as Brett Zeggil (Priceville, Ontario) potted a short-handed goal and Dan Bell (Victoria, British Columbia) added his 10th before Herzog lit the lamp for a second time.

Erick Cinotti (Mahwah, N.J.) stopped 24 shots to earn the shutout win, while Kang made 27 saves in the loss.

With the loss, the Hawks have lost three-straight games and drop to 6-6-3 overall and to 3-6-2 within the ECAC Men's East.  Castleton improves to 15-3-0 overall and to 10-1-0 within conference play. Castleton will host New England College tomorrow at 4 pm.

SLAPSHOTS: Lazorko's 1.06 goals per game is tied for tops in the country… Schoeneberger's power-play goal was his 12th, which leads the nation… The shutout was Cinotti's first of the season, and third of his career… Cinotti now ranks second in the country in goals against average (1.74), and first in save percentage (.944)
