Box Score KEENE, N.H. – Two days after earning a 1-0 double-overtime victory, the Castleton women's soccer team found themselves on the wrong side of a one-goal contest, falling to Keene State on Monday night by a 1-0 score.
The Spartans and the Owls played to a scoreless first half despite the visitors being outshot 13-1. In the final 45 minutes of play, Keene State finally broke through as Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal in the 79th minute.
Despite the loss, Castleton got an impressive performance from freshman goalkeeper Katja Langmaid (Enosburg Falls, Vt.). Making her second career start, the first-year finished the night with a career-high 16 saves. On the other end of the field, Owls keeper Megan Dempsey (East Weymouth, Mass.) made two stops in the shutout.
Keene State finished with a 23-5 advantage in shots as the team improves to 4-3 on the season.
The Spartans fall to 5-3 with the loss but return home for the first time in nearly two weeks when they face Green Mountain on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
