Castleton Takes Down MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Kelsey Garceau (St. Albans, Vt.) scored a pair of goals and Castleton out-shot MCLA 26-5 to earn a 3-1 win in non conference women's soccer action Wednesday evening.

Garceau broke through in the 12th minute, scoring her first of the season off a Kelsey Lenney (Coxsackie, N.Y.) assist. Lenney passed a low cross in to Garceau who redirected inside the far post to give Castleton the early lead.

Garceau gave the Spartans a 2-0 lead in the 28th minute, potting the eventual game-winner off a Courtney Chadburn (North Clarendon, Vt.) cross.

Just 40 seconds later MCLA got on the scoreboard as Lauren Ford (Voorheesville, N.Y.) headed home a Rachel Niddrie (Worcester, Mass.) cross to slice the lead in half.

The Spartans controlled play for the remainder of the contest, and frehsman Kayla Rogers (Naugatuck, Conn.) takced on an insurance tally in the 73rd minute to put the game away. Rogers netted her first collegiate goal, redirecting a cross from Lucia Sforza (Walcott, Vt.) and past goalie Jen Wehner (Cooperstown, N.Y.).

Wehner finished with 12 saves, while Ericka Davis (Cambridge, Vt.) stopped two shots in the win.

Castleton improves to 4-2 overall and will open its North Atlantic Conference season Saturday at Lyndon at 1 pm.
