Box Score BANGOR, Maine – After allowing a combined 20 runs in a pair of losses to Husson University the day before, Castleton State College received a pair of dynamite pitching performances from Tyler Erickson (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Seth Harrington (Bennington, Vt.) to return the favor in NEAC East Baseball action Wednesday at The Winkin Complex.
Erickson tossed 10 innings in the opener, battling his way to a 2-1 win, while Harrington went the distance in the nightcap, earning a 4-1 victory.
Erickson locked horns with Husson's Nate Adams (Frankfort, Maine) in a true pitchers' duel.
Castleton's junior righthander had a no-hitter going through five innings, facing just two batters over the minimum on a pair of walks. Adams kept the score knotted at zero through five innings as well, scattering five hits.
The Spartans broke through for a single run in the top of the sixth as Ryan Zielinski (Schenectady, N.Y.) worked a lead-off walk, moved to second on a passed ball and came around to score on an Aaron Zrenda (East Lyme, Conn.) ground-rule double.
Husson answered in the bottom half of the inning, as Ethan Guerette (Sabattus, Maine) broke up Erickson's no-hit bid with a lead-off single and scored two batters later on a Shawn Smith (Waterford, Maine) single.
The game remained 1-1 until the top of the 10th inning when Jack Lancelin (Chatham, N.Y.) singled to lead off the inning. Lancelin moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and came around to score later in the inning on an infield error.
Erickson finished allowing just one run on five hits and three walks while striking out a career-high 13. Adams took the loss allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
Lancelin finished 3-for-4 with a run scored, and freshman Zak Mayo (Avon, Conn.) had a pair of hits.
In game two Harrington fanned eight and allowed just on unearned run on six hits and three walks in the complete-game win.
Kyle Leeman (Bangor, Maine) took the loss for the Eagles, pitching five-and-two-thirds innings and allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out seven.
Mayo went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored to pace the Spartan offense and Lancelin went 1-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI.
