Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. - Senior Courtney Chadburn (No. Clarendon, Vt.) had her hand in five goals as Castleton controlled play during all 90 minutes of action on Wednesday night and came away with a convincing 9-0 victory over Cobleskill at Spartan Stadium.
Chadburn scored three times and dished out a pair of assists to lead the offense while Hilary Cooke (Marlborough, Conn.) added two goals and an assist.
The Spartans got on the board ten minutes into the contest as Chadburn one-timed a header from Cooke into the bottom right side of the net for her ninth goal of the season.
Castleton upped its lead to 2-0 at the 21:27 mark. Cooke took the ball at the 18, dribbled into the box and faked out a defender before putting the ball past the goalie and into the back of the net.
In the 33rd minute, Chadburn gave the host squad a three-goal advantage. The senior received the ball just to the right of the 18, dribbled into inside the six before blasting a shot past goalie Jody Pendergast (Phoenix, N.Y.)
Five minutes later Chadburn notched the hat trick after some nifty passing inside the box. Junior Lucia Sforza (Walcott, Vt.) found senior Kelly Gerken (Scottsville, N.Y.) just inside the 18 and she touched a great through ball to Chadburn, who finished off the play for her 11th goal of the season.
The Spartans added to their lead just 3:15 into the second half as Cooke corralled a ball inside the six and blasted it past the diving keeper for the 5-0 advantage.
In the 56th minute, junior Sarah Ethier (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored her third goal of the season when she fired a shot from 25 yards out that went over the outstretched hands of sophomore Misty Golden (Oxford, N.Y.).
Just over a minute later freshman Jenna Bostwick (Pembroke, Mass.) scored her first career goal, heading the ball into the net off a Chadburn corner. Chadburn added her second assist in the 74th minute as she dropped a corner right in front of the net for Kelliann Humphrey (Turner Falls, Mass.), who tapped it in.
Maria Arnot (Milford, N.Y.) concluded the scoring for the Spartans as she ripped a shot from the 18 into the back of the net.
Katja Langmaid (Enosburg Falls, Vt.) was forced to make two saves in net for her second career shutout and her third win of the season. Pendergast and Golden each played 45 minutes for the Fighting Tigers and combined for 26 saves.
Cobleskill drops to 3-7-2 with the loss while Castleton improves to 8-4 overall. The Spartans return to action on Oct. 8 when they travel north to take on the University of Maine at Farmington at 1 p.m.
