Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton State College men's basketball team used an 18-2 run midway through the first half to pull away for an 87-58 win over Green Mountain College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Tuesday evening at Glenbrook Gymnasium.
Castleton (8-7, 4-1) trailed 12-11 after a Ben LaCure (Hudson, Mass.) three-pointer with 14:06 left in the opening half. But, the Spartans responded with an 18-2 run over the next 12 minutes of play to take the lead for good. Kevin Eisenberg (Moultonborough, N.H.) tossed in seven points to lead the surge.
From then on it was all Castleton, as the Spartans held a 44-24 edge at halftime, controlling the inside to the tune of a 22-6 advantage in the paint. Castleton also converted 11 Eagle turnovers into 19 points in the first half.
Castleton placed five players in double figures, led by Eisenberg's 13 including a 3-for-5 performance from beyond the three-point line. Jared Paul (Tampa, Fla.) also added 13, while Mike Knight (Spring Valley, N.Y.) and matt Cooney (Washingtonville, N.Y.) chipped in 11. Kyle Hall (Colchester, Vt.) had 10 off the bench.
Green Mountain (0-9, 0-5) was led by Malik Hale's (Springfield, Vt.) 17-point performance, Kenneth Williams (Fort Myers, Fla.) added 16 points on 7-of-17 shooting, while LaCure chipped in a dozen on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arch.
Both teams return to action Saturday as Green Mountain plays host to Johnson State and Castleton duels with Lyndon State. Both NAC games will tip-off at 4 p.m.
