HENNIKER, N.H. – New England College junior goaltender Teraysa White (Belgrade, Maine) turned away 18 shots to record her eighth career shutout and lead the Pilgrims over Castleton, 2-0, in ECAC East action on Saturday afternoon.
New England College improves to 7-3-1 overall and 7-1-0 in ECAC East play. The Spartans fall to 4-7-2 overall and 2-5-1 in the conference.
Freshman forward Kristin Diehm (Milford, Conn.) jumpstarted the Pilgrims' offense in the first period putting home a rebound off of Kaleigh Costello's (Hudson, N.H.) intial shot past Castleton netminder Amanda Hoy (Brockport, N.Y.) for a 1-0 lead at 7:46.
Sophomore forward Stephanie Spera (Stoughton, Mass.) gave New England College a 2-0 advantage at 15:09, on the power play, with assists from teammates Jamie Tabb (Holland, Mass.) and Chelsea Torrico (Mt. Washington, Mass.) and then White and the Pilgrims stingy defense closed out the rest of the contest.
White turned away five shots in the second period and seven in the third, most in any period, to improve her regular season record to 7-3-1.
Hoy (3-4-1) made 29 saves including 13 in the second period to keep it a 2-0 game.
Castleton returns to action on the road against Salve Regina on Saturday, January 22 at 3 pm.
