POTSDAM, N.Y.. – The Castleton State College women's ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie at SUNY-Potsdam Tuesday evening at Maxcy Arena.

After winning last weekend's Rutland Herald Invitational hosted by Castleton, the Bears (5-7-1 overall) continued their five-game unbeaten run in the New Year with a strong defensive effort and solid goaltending from sophomore Jen Conophy (Burlington, Ontario), who finished with 26 saves.

Junior Caitlin Manahan (St. Albans, Vt.) recorded the Bears' lone goal just over two minutes into the contest, diving for a deflection in front of the crease off a pass from junior Annmarie Lewis (Newmarket, Ontario).

Castleton (4-6-2) evened the score in the third period with 12:55 to play on a power play opportunity, as Jade Werger (Maple Ridge, B.C.) potted her third goal of the season.

Potsdam continued to pressure the Spartans in their defensive zone, peppering the Castleton defense with 21 shots in the third period. The two teams went back and forth in the five-minute extra period, but neither team was able to threaten.

Amanda Hoy (Brockport, N.Y.) continued her solid play in between the pipes, stopping 45 shots on net after being named ECAC East Goalie of the Week on Monday.

Castleton travels to New England College on Saturday for a 1:00 pm ECAC East match-up.
