Box Score

CASTLETON, Vt. - Senior forward Josh Costa (Sutton, Mass.) scored four goals, including the first three of the contest, to lead Castleton State College to a 6-1 win over Colby-Sawyer College in non-conference men's soccer action Sunday at Spartan Stadium.

Costa broke a scoreless tie in the 11th minute, converting an Anthony Buehler (Castleton, Vt.) pass into his first of the season. Five minutes later Trevor Kotrady (North Clarendon, Vt.) made a centering pass that Costa one-touched home.

Derek Veilleux (Winslow, Maine) put the Chargers on the board ripping a shot off a direct kick past Castleton keeper Andy LaCroix (Jamaicca, Vt.) from just outside the 18-yard box.

Costa answered in the 22nd minute to push the Spartan lead back to two, heading home a cross from freshman John Kendall (Springfield, Vt.).

Markers from Kotrady, Chris Mulholland (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) and another from Costa rounded out the Spartan offensive outburst in the second half.

Will Berry (Berlin, Vt.) stopped three shots, allowing all six Spartan goals before being lifted in favor of Max Williams (Ipswich, Mass.) who went untested.

LaCroix picked up the win, going the first 61 minutes before giving way to freshman Nate Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) who stopped the only shot that came his way.

Castleton will take to the road next Wednesday when the Spartans travel to Southern Vermont for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference affair.

Colby-Sawyer travels to Anna Maria on September 11 for a 2:00 p.m. kick-off.
