Box Score

CASTLETON, Vt. - Castleton State College scored a pair of goals within 90 seconds of each other late in the second half to propel the Spartans to a 2-1 victory over visiting Norwich University in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday evening at Spartan Stadium.

Castleton (6-4) trailed 1-0 until Billy Lund (Monson, Mass.) netted the equalizer from the 18-yard line. Chris Mulholland (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) played a bending cross in from the left side that two Norwich defenders were able to deflect away from the goal. The final attempt at clearing the ball failed however, and found Lund waiting who punched home his first marker of the season.

Exactly 90 seconds later Castleton took the lead for good on Jacob Roswell's (Hartford, Vt.) first goal of the season. Mulholland once again initiated the score, this time lofting his cross well above the Cadet defense, clearing the goalmouth. Roswell streaked in from the right flank and headed it past the dive of Norwich goalie Alex Toomey (Anchorage, Alaska).

Norwich (4-5-1) broke a scoreless tie in the 47th minute of play as Jake Leclaire (Henderson, Nev.) potted his sixth goal of the season off a William Flanagan (Oxford, N.Y.) assist. Flanagan played a direct kick from 30 yards out on the left flank into the box where Leclaire got enough of his head on it to redirect it past goalie Andy LaCroix (Jamaica, Vt.).

Toomey ended the contest with four saves, while LaCroix turned away two to pick up the win.

Castleton will play host to Lyndon State on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in a battle of North Atlantic Conference (NAC) unbeatens. Norwich will travel to Emmanuel on Saturday for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up at 12 noon.
