Castleton downs Saint Michael's on the road

WINOOSKI, Vt. – Amy Costa (Bristol, R.I.) and Jade Werger (Maple Ridge, B.C.) each tallied goal as Castleton State College defeated Saint Michael's College 2-1 Saturday evening in ECAC Women's East action.

With the win Castleton improves to 2-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the ECAC East, while Saint Michael's falls to 0-3-0, 0-2-0.

Costa gave Castleton a 1-0 lead just four minutes and 31 seconds into the first period, notching a power-play goal off assists from Meagan Hulbert (Barre, Vt.) and eileen Coyne (North Attleboro, Mass.).

Madelena Santore (Millington, N.J.) made it 1-1 when she potted her second goal of the season, shorthanded just 23 seconds prior to the first intermission.

Werger provided the game winner, her first of the season, four minutes and 54 seconds into the second period, with Kailtin Hayes (Burlington, Vt.) picking up an assist. Hayes has now provided at least one point in each of the last three games.

Amanda Hoy (Brockport, N.Y.) stopped 23 shots to earn the win, while Erin Stevens (Watertown, Conn.) made 18 saves in the loss.

Castleton returns to action Friday, November 19 when the Spartans play host to Plymouth State in ECAC East action at Spartan Arena. Face-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
