Box Score CASTLETON, Vt. - Junior forward Hilary Cooke (Marlborough, Conn.) scored a hat-trick to propel the Castleton State College women's soccer team over Plymouth St., 4-0, in non-conference action at Spartan Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The Spartans improve to 12-2 overall on the season, have won nine-straight games and have not been scored upon in 360 minutes of play. The Panthers drop to 5-8 overall.
Cooke opened up the scoring at 8:09 of the first half receiving a through pass from teammate Brynn Campbell (Clarendon, Vt.) near the left side of the box and finished with a shot tucked just inside the left post behind Plymouth St. goaltender Angelina LaBroad (Hampton, N.H.) for a 1-0 lead.
Just one minute and 41 seconds later, Cooke registered her 13th goal of the season set up beautifully by Maria Arnot (Mildford, N.Y.) and Megan Blongy (Rutland, Vt.). From about 30-yards out, Arnot fed Blongy with a through pass near the right side of the box. Then, Blongy quickly played a low cross to Cooke on the left flank and she one-touched the ball inside the left post for a 2-0 advantage.
In the 15th minute, Castleton defender Kelly Tetreault (Tolland, Conn.) kept the Panthers off of the scoreboard stopping Sam LaLiberte's (Concord, N.H.) shot from going into the net after it beat Castleton goaltender Ericka Davis (Cambridge, Vt.) from the right side of the box.
Moments later, Davis kept the Spartans' shutout streak intact robbing Carol Messler (Durham, N.H.) on a shot attempt from the left flank that was targeted just under the crossbar.
Courtney Chadburn (No. Clarendon, Vt.) made it 3-0 at 55:05 of the second half with a successful penalty kick for her 16th goal of the season.
At 78:35, Cooke completed her hat-trick chipping a shot just under the crossbar for her 14th goal of the season. Campbell got the play started finding Kelsey Garceau (St. Albans, Vt.) open in the box with a through pass, then Garceau played it over to Cooke for the added insurance tally.
LaBroad took the loss, stopping seven shots while Davis earned her fifth shutout of the season turning away three.
Castleton will travel to Maine Maritime Academy Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match up. Plymouth State returns to Little East Conference play at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at UMass-Dartmouth.
