Box Score

CASTLETON, Vt. - Courtney Chadburn (North Clarendon, Vt.) scored a pair of goals and handed out an assist as Castleton won for the fifth straight game, defeating Elmira College 4-2 in non-conference women's soccer action Friday evening at Spartan Stadium.

Castleton (8-2) has outscored its opponents 27-4 over its current streak, and has won seven of its last eight contests. Elmira falls to 0-8-1 on the season.

Hilary Cooke (Marlborough, Conn.) broke a scoreless tie in the 19th minute, netting her ninth goal of the season unassisted. Megan Blongy (Rutland, Vt.) played the ball into the center of the field where it was mishit and deflected directly to Cooke who settled and scored.

Three minutes later Chadburn (North Clarendon, Vt.) made it 2-0, scoring on a nifty give-and-go play with Blongy. Chadburn played it to the right flank to Blongy, who drew the defender before playing a through pass back to Chadburn for her eighth goal of the season. Cooke was instrumental on the play as well, completing a strong run to the far post to draw the weak side defender.

Blongy appeared to make it 3-0 in the 56th minute, when she potted a breakaway attempt, but the play was whistled dead due to an offside call. Elmira quickly countered, playing the ball up the left flank to Natty Vogler (Wellsboro, Pa.). Vogler sent a shot towards the goal that Castleton goalie Ericka Davis (Cambridge, Vt.) had lined up, but a Spartan defender misdirected the shot just inside the nearside post.

Blongy was able to net her 10th goal of the season seven minutes later, scoring on a Chadburn assist from the center of the box. Chadburn made it 4-1 less than one minute later, scoring her ninth of the season from 28 yards out.

Caitlyn Criscuolo (Cheshire, Conn.) scored with under a minute remaining in the contest, pouncing on a loose ball in the box and ripping it into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.

Davis stopped one shot in the victory while starting goalie Karissa Wilson (Londonderry, N.H.) stopped three in the first half and backup Megan Lowe (Leroy, N.Y.) turned away two second half shots in the loss.

Castleton will play host to North Atlantic Conference foe Lyndon State Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. as part of homecoming weekend. Elmira will play host to SUNY-Fredonia Tuesday evening at 4:00 p.m.
