Castleton sweeps Sage in non-conference action

Troy, NY – The Castleton State College softball team swept Sage College in non-league softball action, taking the first game 7-6, and earning a 10-2 mercy-rule win in the nightcap.

Game One - Stephanie Wright went 3-for-3 while Alicia Zraunig, Hilary Bemis and Sarah Flore each had two hits as Castleton squeaked out the 7-6 win. Zraunig drove in a pair, while Bemis provided a solo homerun in the win. Wright also drove in two in support of Tosha Whittemore's complete-game effort.

Whittemore allowed five earned runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out four.

Maria Pasquarelli led the Gators with two hits including a homerun and four runs batted in.

Game Two - Bemis was 2-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in as Castleton scored all 10 runs over the final three innings to earn the win.

Bemis went the distance on the mound, allowing two earned on three hits and two walks while striking out nine.
