Box Score ONEONTA, NY – Castleton placed all five starters in double-figures and won for the second-straight day, defeating Cazenovia 103-89 in men's college basketball action at the Tom Greene Memorial Tournament hosted by Hartwick College.
Seth Harrington (Bennington, VT) scored a team-high 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line as Castleton improves to 2-1 on the season. The Spartans proved to be the aggressor, as Castleton was 29-for-35 from the charity stripe in the contest, while Cazenovia made just 7-of-10.
Cazenovia raced out to a 12-3 lead just 3:24 into the contest, as the Wildcats made five of their first seven attempts including a pair of Dan Holtzman three-pointers. Cazenovia maintained the lead for the first 10 minutes of play, before Castleton unleashed an 11-0 run, capped by a Keith Schneider (Benson, VT) jumper with 6:45 remaining to take a 27-23 lead that the Spartans would never relinquish. The lead swelled to as many as 24 (87-63) with 8:40 remaining in the game.
Jared Paul (Tampa, FL) finished 5-for-6 from the floor and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc to finish with 15 points and five assists for the Spartans. Greg Hughes (West Rutland, VT) and Mark Comstock (Rutland, VT) added 14 and 13 points respectively while Derick Faragon (Schenectady, NY) added 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds for Castleton.
Holtzman led Cazenovia (0-3) with a game-high 23 points including a 7-for-10 performance from beyond the arc. Matt Phillips added 16 and Cameron Smith chipped in 10 for the Wildcats.
Castleton's semester-long road trip continues on Tuesday when the Spartans travel to Plymouth State for a 7:30 p.m. non-conference tip-off.
