Box Score

Poultney, VT - Rui Carmo's lay-in with 12 seconds remaining gave Green Mountain College the lead for good as the Eagles defeated Castleton in come-from-behind fashion, 70-69, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's basketball action.

Fabian Ferriera forced a Spartan turnover with 22 seconds remaining, and after the ensuing time-out, fed carmo for the winning bucket. Seth Harrington's last second attempt was turned away by Ferriera to seal the victory.

Castleton stretched its lead to 47-34 with 18:15 remaining in the contest on a Kevin Cayea three-pointer. The Eagles answered with a 19-2 run over the next eight minutes to grab a four-point lead. Harrington then fueled a 13-2 run by the Spartans, scoring 10 points over the next minute of play to give Castleton a seven-point lead at 62-55. Yet another Green Mountain run, this time an 11-4 advantage left the game tied with 2:29 remaining. Harrington canned a three-pointer to give Castleton the lead, but a pair of Spartan turnovers down the stretch proved to be costly and Green Mountain escaped with the win.

Harrington led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including three from beyond the three-point stripe. Marcus Hass added 19 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks, while Cayea chipped in 14 points for the 2-14 (1-4 NAC) Spartans.

Ferreira led the 10-5 (2-3 NAC) Eagles with 19 points and six rebounds, while Carmo added 18 points and nine rebounds. Gerrard Johnson rounded out the Eagles in double figures with 17 points and 13 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end.

Castleton is back in action Friday and Saturday when they play host to Thomas College (8:00 pm) and University of Maine-Farmington (4:00 pm) respectively.
