Rutland, VT - The Castleton State College men's ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with visiting Connecticut College in ECAC Men's East/NESCAC cross-over action at the Rutland Regional Fieldhouse Friday night.
Both teams battled through an evenly matched first period of scoreless hockey, before the Camels were able to break through for a goal during the second period. Sean Driscoll broke the scoreless tie 6:27 into the second frame after a scramble in front of the net. Driscoll corralled a loose puck off a rebound and potted his fifth goal of the season past Castleton goalie, Seth McNary.
Castleton was able to net the equalizer early in the third period as Brandon Heck scored his sixth goal of the season off an Omar Pacha assist. Heck was able to beat Connecticut College goalie, Greg Parker just inside the glove side post to knot the game at 1-1.
Conn. College applied early pressure in the Castleton zone during the third period, but McNary was up to the task, turning away 12 of his 30 saves during the final stanza. Castleton had a power-play opportunity with 35 seconds remaining in the game, and nearly escaped with the win but Stuart Stefan's slap shot with 11 seconds remaining was turned away by Parker.
Castleton was able to get off three shots during the extra five minutes, but to no avail as the game ended in the 1-1 tie. Parker ended the contest with 27 saves for the 5-5-2 (1-4-2 NESCAC) Camels.
