Box Score Troy, NY-The Castleton State College baseball team lost to ninth-ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 12-3 in a non-conference macth-up at Robison Field in Troy, NY
RPI has won 12-straight games and improved to 18-1 on the season, while Castleton falls to 5-13.
Trailing 3-0 in the top of the fourth, Castleton squandered a bases-loaded opporunity. Brad Polcare walked to lead off the inning. Kyle Brooks and Dan Conley followed with back-to-back singles, filling the bases. Redhawk pitcher Ken Carroll then struck out one and got the next batter to ground out to Krushelnsyki at first, who threw home for the force play. Carroll finished off the potential rally by getting a groundout to short.
The Redhawks then scored seven-unanswered to take a 10-0 lead before Castleton got on the board in the top of the seventh on a pair of RBI-singles by Anthony DiPietrantonio and Lauck Blake.
The Spartans scored one run in the top of ninth, when Polcare drew a bases loaded walk. Conley ended the day 2-for-4 for Castleton, while Blake finished 1-for-3 with a run batted in. Starter Billy Bruneau allowed six runs (4 earned) on six hits in five innings.
Castleton will play its home-opener on Friday afternoon at 3:30 when Colby-Sawyer comes to town for a 9-inning non-conference affair.
