Bangor, ME-The Castleton State College baseball team split its North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener with Husson College, losing game one 3-2 (10-innings), and battling for a 1-0 win in the nightcap.

Game One: Castleton, playing as the home team even though the game was moved to Bangor because of field conditions, trailed 2-1 before sending the game to extra innings with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Billy Bruneau led the Spartan offense with two hits and one RBI.

Castleton starter, Rob Turner went eight innings, scattering six hits, while striking out six and walking none in the no-decision.

Game Two: Kyle Brooks was 2-for-3 with a double and the game-winning RBI in the first inning as Castleton salvaged the split.

In a classic pitchers' duel, Castleton starter Ken Cook locked up with Husson's Ryan Arsenau. Cook got the better of Arsenau and Husson, going seven strong innings and striking out four in the win. The sophomore righty allowed just three hits in earning his first collegiate shut-out.
