Lyndonville, VT-The Castleton State College baseball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Lyndon State College, taking game one 9-1, but dropping the nightcap 3-2.

Game One: Castleton rode a complete-game two-hit performance from southpaw, Adam Kuhn and cruised to the win. Kuhn allowed one earned, while striking out four and walking one.

Lyndon State's lone run came in the bottom of the sixth when Kuhn allowed a lead-off double, followed by a ground ball that moved the runner to third before a sacrifice fly to left field brought him home. Prior to the sixth, Kuhn had faced just one batter over the minimum.

The Castleton offense plated at least one run in all but the second and fourth innings. The Spartans plated two in the first when Mitch Thresher singled and scored on a Chris Ragis rbi-double. Dan Conley walked and later scored on an rbi-ground out by Ted MIlls. Conley would score again in the third when he singled, stole second, stole third and took hom on a wild pitch.

Brad Polcare provided a two-run single in the sixth that plated Chris Albert who had singled earlier in the inning and Lauck Blake who had reached on an error. Castleton tacked on three more insurance runs in the seventh on a Matt Eisenhuth rbi-single, and a two-run single from Albert.

Albert led the Spartan offense with three hits while Thresher added two including a double.

Game Two: In the nightcap Lyndon State starter, Jordan Royer stymied the Spartan offense for the complete-game win. Royer scattered five hits over seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) while striking out six and walking none.

Lyndon State picked up single runs in the second, third and fifth innings. The first two runs came by virtue of walks as Castleton starter Billy O'Donnell struggled with his command through 2-and-one-third innings. The freshman lefty allowed two earned on just one hit, but walked six while striking out none.

Castleton tallied a pair of runs in the sixth, but the comeback fell short. Chris Albert and Brad Polcare each singled and scored in the inning. Garrett Bissonnette led off the seventh with a single, moved to second on Matt Eisenhuth's sacrifice, took third on Jordan Robare's ground out but was stranded there on the final out of the game.

Mitch Thresher allowed one earned run in relief on three hits while striking out six as Castleton falls to 14-15 on the season.

The Spartans will play host to Plymouth State on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
