Castleton makes it four-straight wins with doubleheader sweep of Norwich

Castleton, VT-Castleton State College earned a doubleheader sweep over Norwich University in non-conference college baseball action, winning the first game 5-2 and the second 10-2.

Game One: Freshman Will LaRose picked up the complete game win, allowing two earned runs on five hits while striking out three.

Castleton led 1-0 after one, and tacked on two more in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. Brad Polcare walked, stole second and scored on a pair of wild pitches to open the scoring. In the third Garrett Bissonnette provided a sacrifice fly, and Billy Bruneau smacked a two-out run-scoring single.

Tim O'Connor doubled and scored on Brian Segit's rbi-single in the fifth as Norwich pulled to within 3-1. In the bottom of the fifth the Spartans plated two more as Ted Mills provided an rbi-single.

Norwich grabbed another run in the top of the seventh, but Greg Pawluk was thrown out at second trying to stretch his rbi-single into a double to end the game. Norwich starter, Rob Knox took the loss, allowing one run over two innings. Knox allowed two hits and walked three.

Bruneau went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and one RBI to lead Castleton. Kyle Brooks added a pair of hits and scored one run. Brian Segit was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Norwich.

Game Two: Jeremy Gilcris struck out 10 Cadets in six innings of work to earn his first win of the season. Gilcris allowed four hits, and two earned runs while walking one.

Castleton put together a three-run first inning, a four-run second and a three-fun fourth to take the win.

Mitch Thresher was 3-for 4 with two RBI and one run scored as Castleton improved to 9-13 on the season. Dan Conley went 2-for-3 with one RBI, two runs scored and four stolen bases to key the Spartan offense.

Norwich's Kyle Przekaza was 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored to lead the 2-18 Cadets.

Castleton is back in action Thursday when the Spartans play host to Williams College in a non-conference match-up beginning at 4:15. Norwich returns to conference play on April 18 with a doubleheader at St. Joseph's College (Me.) beginning at 3:00 pm.
