Castleton stumbles in Phoenix, 6-4 to MIT

Phoenix, AZ-A six-run sixth inning proved to be enough, as Castleton State College fell 6-4 to The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in college baseball action at the Phoenix Invitational.

Castleton held a 3-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, before yielding six runs to fall to 1-9 on the season.

The Spartans plated a pair of unearned runs in the first, and plated an earned run in the fifth to take the lead half way through the game. Anthony DiPietrantonio walked and scored on an error to start things off. Lauck Blake reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score on Garrett Bissonette's RBI-ground out in the first. In the fifth Kyle Brooks and Chris Ragis singled to lead off the inning, were sacrificed to second and third by Ted Mills. With one out Brooks came around to score on Marlie Froese's RBI-ground out.

Castleton starting pitcher, Ken Cook breezed through the first five innings of work, allowing just one hit until he ran into trouble in the sixth. After getting the lead-off man to ground out, the next eight Engineers reached base before Cook was lifted with the bases-loaded and the score tied at 4-4. MIT would get two more on a single of Mitch Thresher, before Thresher struck out the final batter of the inning.

Ragis and Froese each had a pair of hits to lead the offense, Froese had a pair fo RBI.
