Box Score Cambridge, MA-The Castleton State College men's basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 76-55 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Quarterfinal loss to (#2 East) Lesley University 76-55. The 55 points marks the lowest output all season from a Spartan offense that entered the game averaging over 84 points per contest and was in the top-15 in scoring in the country for much of the season.
Lesley opened the game on a 10-0 run, held a 42-26 halftime lead and never trailed, improving to 11-15 on the season.
After falling behind 42-19 with two minutes remaining in the first half, Castleton went on a 14-0 run to cut the deficit to nine, just three minutes into the second half. It was as close as the 15-11 Spartans would come as Lesley pulled away over the final 17 minutes to earn the trip to the NAC semifinal round.
Lesley senior, Mark Stevens scored 17 of his game-high 21 points in the first half, and was joined in double-figures by Joseph Chatman (11) and Zach Roca (10).
Richard Reilly led the Spartans with 14 points and five rebounds, while Josh Howe chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds. Chris Young added nine points (all in the second half) and nine rebounds.
Reilly closes out one of the finest individual careers in Spartan history. The senior point guard amassed 1466 points, fifth all-time in Castleton men's history and dished out 551 assists, ranking him first all-time in Castleton history.
