Box Score 2 Irving, TX-The Castleton State College baseball team closed out its trip to Texas with a pair of losses to the UNiversity of Dallas. The Spartans dropped the first game of the doubleheader 5-2, and fell in the nightcap 7-1. With the losses Castleton falls to 0-5.
Game 1: Castleton got out of the gate well, scoring single runs in the first and second innings, but their bats went cold soon after as they were shut-out the rest of the way. The Spartan offense received two-hit efforts from Brad Polcare and Dan Conley at the top of the order to lead the way. Kyle Brooks and Lauck Blake each knocked in one run and had one hit apiece, but Castleton could not muster any more as the fell for the fourth-straight game.
Ken Cook started and pitched one inning, allowing one run on one hit and three walks before striking out the side. Rob Turner pitched a perfect second inning, striking out all three batters he faced. Mitch Thresher took the loss, allowing one run in the third and two in the fourth, only one of which was earned.
Game 2: Jeremy Gilcris took the loss in relief, allowing four runs on five hits in his one inning of work. The Spartans allowed four runs in the fourth and three in the fifth en route to their fifth-straight loss.
Dan Conley scored Castleton's lone run in the fifth inning and Chris Ragis had a pair of hits for the Spartans.
Castleton returns to action on Friday, March 14th when they travel to Christopher Newport University for a double header in Newport News, Virginia.
