Castleton ends semester with loss at SUNYIT

Utica, NY - The Castleton State College men's basketball team ended its semester on a down note, losing 106-65 at SUNYIT in non-conference action.

After Castleton scored the first basket of the contest, SUNYIT went on a 12-0 run and never looked back. The Wildcats would shot 57.8% (26-45) in the first half on their way to a 66-37 lead at the break. SUNYIT came out hot in the second half as well, shooting 45 percent and going up by as many as 46 points en route to victory. The Wildcats controlled the paint, outscoring Castleton 60-30 down low, and also created 22 points off of 18 Spartan turnovers.

The Spartans struggled to find their range, shooting just 3-of-26 from beyond the three-point arc. Kevin Cayea, Marcus Hass and Michael Carrier each scored 11 points for the 0-7 Spartans.

Leading the way for SUNYIT was sophomore Diloo Brown, who shot 7-of-11 from the field to finish with a game-high 20 points. Sophomore David Golembiowksi scored 15 points and grabbed seven boards, while senior Ajani Edwards collected 13 points, a game-high seven assists, six rebounds and a game-high five steals in just 21 minutes of action. Junior Aaron Swancott went 5-of-8 from the field and finished with 12 points and four rebounds, while fellow classmate Ronnie Franklin shot 5-of-7 from the floor and registered 10 points and four rebounds. Sophomore Derek Hahn grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and also scored six points.

Castleton will break for the semester and return with a January 2 match up versus Bates at the Naismith Classic, hosted by Springfield College.
