Castleton falls 84-73 in consolation round of Blazer Tip-Off

Chicopee, MA - Sophomore forward, Marcus Hass, psoted his second-straight double-double, scoring a game-high 17 points and hauling in 13 rebounds, but it was not enough as Castleton State College lost 84-73 to Regis College in the consolation round of the Blazer Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Elms College.

Castleton led 17-15 with 12:24 remaining in the first half before the Pride caught fire and out-scored the Spartans 37-20 to close out the half with a 15-point lead at 52-27. Regis shot 52.5% for the first half, and was 8-for-13 (61.5%) from beyond the arc. Jimy Irmiter and Mike Barile keyed the Pride run, canning three three-pointers apiece, and netting 11 and nine points respectively in the first half.

The Spartans cut the lead to 55-45 on a Hass tip-in 2:46 into the second half, but it was as close as they would come as Regis stretched its lead to as many as 23 before settling in for the 84-73 final.

Tom Hughes netted 17 points to lead four players in double figures for 1-1 Regis. Irmiter finished with 16 points off the bench, while Derrick Neal added 14 and Ta'Keame Gomes scored 10.

Seth Harrington and Rubin Jennings each added 12 for the 0-2 Spartans, while Kevin Cayea chipped in 11.

Hass and Neal represented their respective teams on the all-tournament team. Host, Elms College, won the championship game over Springfield 73-63.

The Spartans will take to the road Wednesday, November 19 in search of their first win at New England College in non-conference action slated for a 7:30 pm start.
