Box Score Castleton, VT-Kevin Cayea knocked in a career-high eight three-pointers on 12 attempts and scored 26 points to lead Castleton to a 94-83 win over SUNY Institute of Technology in men's basketball action at Glenbrook Gymnasium.
Cayea's game-high 26 paced five Spartans in double-figures as Castleton raced out to a 54-34 halftime advantage. SUNYIT refused to go away, as Ajani Edwards scored a team-high 23 points to lead the 3-5 Wildcats.
SUNYIT also placed five players in double-figures, as Dave Golembiowski led a second-half surge with 14 points in the final 20 minutes, including four three-pointers. Golemboiowski would finish with 18 points and six rebounds, while Devon Moore added 15 points and nine rebounds. Lol-Kirk Miller and Maceo Haynesworth rounded out the Wildcats in double-figures with 10 apiece.
Joey Farley followed Cayea in the scoring column for the 7-4 Spartans with 18 points, including a 4-9 performance from beyond the three-point arc. Josh Howe added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Richard Reilly chipped in 12 points, 11 assists and six rebounds. Chris Young led the way on the glass, grabbing 15 rebounds to go with eight points.
Castleton shot 51.5% from the floor on the evening, including a 14-34 performance from three-point land.
The Spartans will open their North Atlantic Conference schedule this weekend with a 6:00 pm tip-off at Becker College on Friday, and a 2:00 pm start at Elms College on Saturday.
