Randolph, VT-The Castleton State College men's basketball team started 2008 the same way they ended 2007, topping to century mark and defeating an in-state school. This time the Spartans dispatched Vermont Technical College 102-83 in the opening round of the Vermont State Colleges Tournament.

Kevin Cayea knocked in 6-10 from beyond the three-point stripe, and led five Spartans in double-figures with 26. Chris Young followed in the scoring column with 19 points and nine rebounds for the 5-4 Spartans.

Josh Howe and Richard Reilly each turned in strong performances tallying 17 points apiece to go along with eight assists for Howe and six for Reilly. Joey Farley rounded out the scorers in double-figures with 13 off the bench.

Castleton will take on Johnson State in the championship of the tournament on January 5 at 3:00 pm.
