Rutland, VT-The Castleton State College women's ice hockey team is still searching for its first win of 2008 after dropping an 8-0 non-conference game to #7 Amherst College.
Caroline Hu stopped 17 shots to earn the shut-out victory for the 8-3-2 Lord Jeffs.
Amherst opened the scoring just over a minute into play when Kate Dennett scored a short-handed goal. Dennett picked up her second goal of the game later in the period, this time on a power play opportunity.
The Lord Jeffs netted four goals in the second period to push the score to 6-0. Castleton goalie Vanessa Carter stopped 27 shots, including 20 in the second period.
Tarasai Karega joined Dennett in scoring a pair of goals for Amherst, While Courtney Hanlon added three assists.
Kalla Robb replaced Carter in goal for the final period, allowing the final two goals of the game while recording 18 saves.
Castleton falls to a record of 3-7-3 on the season. The Spartans return to play Saturday, January 19 when they host Salve Regina for an ECAC East game at 2:00 pm. Amherst travels to Elmira Friday, January 18.
