Castleton falls on the road to Manhattanville, 4-1

Purchase, NY-Junior goalie, Vanessa Carter stopped 46 shots but it was not enough as the Spartans fell 4-1 to #8 Manhattanville in ECAC East women's hockey action.

Manhattanville junior Danielle Nagymarosiscored two goals, including the game winner to lead the 8-3 (6-1 ECAC East) Valiants.

Sophomore Alex Blackwell put the Valiants on the board less than five minutes into the first period when she put the puck past Carter for her third goal of the season. Jess Zimmerman and Holly Nonis picked up the assists.

Nagymarosi padded the Valiant lead later in the period when Shannon Coffey connected with Manhattanville's leading scorer for Nagymarosi's eighth goal of the season.

28 seconds into the third period, Zimmerman and Erin Brawley found Nagymarosi for her team-leading ninth goal of the season.

With nine minutes remaining in the game, Castleton would get on the board as freshman Cassie Koehne scored her second collegiate goal off a Charl May assist.

Sophia Kokkonis turned away 12 shots for her fourth win of the season.

With under two minutes to play, Nagymarosi put a shot on net that was stopped by Carter, but Coffey stuffed in the rebound for her fourth goal of the season to roudn out the scoring.

Castleton falls to 3-5-3 overall and 2-3-3 in ECAC East play. The Spartans will travel to Holy Cross for a 2:00 pm conference match-up with the Crusaders on Saturday, January 12.
