Box Score

Standish, ME-#1 Castleton (26-10, 10-2 NAC) defeated #4 Maine Farmington (8-14, 5-7 NAC) 16–1 in game 1 of the NAC Tournament at Mahaney Diamond today. Castleton will take on #2 St. Joe's at 2:00 tomorrow while Farmington will play Husson at 10 am.

Senior, Tom Cummings (Athol, MA) was impressive on the mound, pitching seven shutout innings and striking out five while NAC Rookie of the Year Travis Bass (West Hartford, CT) went 3/6 for Castleton with 3 RBI and a run.

The Spartans plated four runs in the second inning and extended the lead with six runs on five hits in the third, holding a 10-0 lead until the fifth. The Castleton offense kept working despite a sizable lead and added a run in the next four innings to take a 16-0 lead.

Farmington got on the board in the ninth with a two-out single by Tyler Hanson (Sanford, ME) that scored Aaron Wolfe (Wilton, ME) but it would be too little, too late for the Beavers.

Castleton's Chris Ragis (South Burlington, VT) went 3/5 with 4 RBI and 2 runs while Eric Anderson (Chester, VT) went 3/5 with 3 runs. Phil Puleo (Utica, NY), Billy Bruneau (Shaftsbury, VT), Tony DePietrantonio (Yorktown Heights, NY) and Tim Zorio (Shaftsbury, VT) all had two hits apiece.

Hanson, Wolfe, Phineas Peake (Penobscot, ME), Brian Morrison (Saco, ME) and Matt Judkins (Thomaston, ME) all registered hits for Farmington and pitcher Dan Hemdal (Nashua, NH) took the loss.
