Box Score 2 Newport News, VA-The Castleton State College baseball team finished their opening road-trip to Virginia on a down-note, falling twice to Christopher Newport; 7-1, 7-5.
Castleton managed just four hits and scratched out an unearned run in the sixth inning to avoid the shut-out. Anthony DiPietrantonio was 2 for 2 with a pair of singles for the Spartan offense. Jeremy Gilcris got the start and took the loss for 1-2 Castleton.
In the nightcap Castleton jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first as they took advantage of four hits and three walks to open it up early. Castleton would relinquish the lead in the fourth as starter, Tom Cummings allowed seven earned in the inning to take the loss. Jon Handy had a pair of hits and two RBI, while Eric Anderson added one hit and one RBI.
Castleton is back in action on Thursday, March 15 when they travel to Tampa, Florida to take on Skidmore College at 11:00 AM. The team will remain in Florida and play double-headers on Friday and Saturday as well.
