Box Score Poultney, VT-The Castleton State College men's basketball team won for the fifth straight game, defeating Green Mountain on the road 71-49. The Spartans jumped out to a seven point lead at the half keyed by the strong guard play of Rich Reilly and Joey farley who notched nine and eight points respectively in teh opening 20 minutes of play.
Castleton stretched their lead to 13 early on in the second half as it looked like they would put it away early. The Eagles would not go away quietly and cut the lead to six with under ten minutes to go, thanks in part to the strong play of Justin Lewandowski who tallied a game-high 17 points. From that point on it was all Castleton however as they put together a 19-0 run over the next 5:25 to give them a 25 point lead they would not relinquish.
Reilly finished with an impressive 17 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and four steals. Farley ended the night with 14 points and six boards, while Josh Howe chipped in 10 points off the Spartan bench. Jeremy Jorgensen struggled from the field, but managed eight points and 13 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.
Green Mountain's Benjamin Stimson was the only other Eagle to reach double-figures with 13 points and seven rebounds before fouling out.
Castleton returns to Glenrbook Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday as they host the final two games of the NAC regular season. Becker comes to town for a 6:00 start on Friday, with Elms tipping-off at 1:00 Saturday.
