Waterville Valley, NH-Junior forward, Katelyn Greene tallied two goals and one assist as the Castleton State College women's ice hockey team skated to a 7-1 ECAC East victory over Plymouth State University.
The Spartans scored four unanswered goals in the second period to turn a 3-1 game into a 7-1 contest, and neither team was able to score in the third period. It was the final game of the semester for both teams, and Castleton heads into the break at 3-4-3 overall and 2-2-3 in the ECAC East, while PSU drops to 0-8-0 both overall and in the league.
Cassie Koehne scored her first collegiate goal to put Castleton on top in 5:24 into the first period off assists from Steph Purinton and Kayla Twigge. Classmate, Courtney Leavitt tallied the game-winner three minutes later, assisted by Brittany Pressey and Charl May. Plymouth State's Amanda Kreamer cut the lead in half at 11:41, but Kate Gray answered five minutes later to push the lead to 3-1 at the first intermission.
Sophomore Andrianna Riggio and Greene tallied goals in the first two minutes of the second period as Castleton extended its lead to 5-1. Sophomore Maryanne Diehm added a power play goal at 10:48, and Greene rounded out the scoring with her second of the game at 16:22. Diehm also picked up an assist on the evening, and sophomore Nicole Adams collected two assists.
Junior Kalla Robb earned the win in the Spartan goal after making 15 saves. Panther junior Lindsay DeLorie finished with 38 saves.
After a break for final exams and the holidays, Plymouth State returns to the ice on Tuesday, January 8, at Waterville Valley vs. Nichols College. Castleton plays again on January 5 when they travel to MIT for a 1:30 pm ECAC East match-up.
