Box Score Saratoga Springs, NY-Castleton State College scored the game's final seven points for a 75-68 men's basketball win over Skidmore College, Tuesday night at the Sports and Recreation Center.
The tight game featured 16 lead changes and 15 ties before the Spartans pulled away in the final two minutes.
Kevin Cayea (Red Hook, N.Y.) hit a three with 2:09 to play to give Castleton a 68-65 lead. Skidmore's Matthew Belsito (New York, N.Y.) answered with a three of his own to tie it 68-68 at 1:54. The Spartans then worked the shot clock down to four seconds before Josh Howe (Randolph, Vt.) hit a three to make it 71-68. Howe had a steal and Rich Reilly (Manassas, Va.) hit a three with :25 to play give Castleton a 74-68 lead. Reilly hit a free throw with nine seconds left
for the 75-68 final.
Jeremy Jorgensen (Fairlee, Vt.) scored a game high 19 points and hauled in nine rebounds for Castleton. Reilly finished with 17 and Howe 15 while Cayea rounded out the Spartans in double-figures with 11.
Jonah Haviland-Markowitz (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Thoroughbreds with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Bobby Langford (Worcester, Mass.) added 13 points and seven rebounds and Ryan Fischer-Werner (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 12 points.
With the win Castleton improves to 7-8 and will play host to NAC foe, Mount Ida College at 8:00 Pm on Friday night. Skidmore falls to 2-13.
