Middletown, RI- Castleton State freshman Nicole Adams [Rutland, Vt.] netted the game-winning goal in overtime and assisted on two other scores to lift the Spartans past Salve Regina 3-2 in ECAC Division III East women's ice hockey action Saturday.
With momentum in Salve Regina's favor following a third-period rally from a 2-0 deficit, Adams was able to end the game when she slipped a shot past Seahawk goalie Michelle Chabot [SO/Waterboro, Maine] with 1:36 remaining in the game. Fellow freshman Brittany Pressey [Woodbridge, Va.] assisted on the winner.
Castleton State (4-10, 2-9 E3W) had a 2-0 lead through two periods, thanks to goals from sophomore Andee Hulbert [Barre, Vt.] and junior Steph Purinton [Gansevoort, N.Y.]. Adams assisted on both goals.
Salve Regina (2-11-1, 2-9 E3W) did not go quietly. Goals by freshmen Ashley Stoppa [Glastonbury, Conn.] and Krissy Roche [Boston, Mass.] knotted the game as the Seahawks carried play in the third period.
Castleton is back in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to Manhattanville for a 2:00 face-off.
