Castleton loses nail-biter 5-4 to St. Michael's

Rutland, VT-Castleton held a 4-3 advantage with under nine minutes to play in the final period, but St. Michael's would score on the power-play to tie the score and then find the net once again for the game winner with just over one minute to go.

Leading the way for St. Michael's was Melissa Gagne. The senior forward tallied a pair of goals, including the game winner and assisted on another. Also with a solid game for the Purpler Knights was sophomore, Amy Schoon who scored the equalizer in the third period and assisted on the game winner. Castleton was once again led by Katelyn Greene. The sophomore forward, fresh off from her appointment as ECAC East Player of the Week tallied a pair of goals and assisted on another.

Vanessa Carter stopped 36 shots in the Spartan loss, while St. Mike's goalie Kristen Salierno stopped 14 in the win.

With the loss Castleton falls to 2-5 (0-5 ECAC East) while St. Michaels improves to 4-3 (2-3 ECAC East). The Spartans return to their home ice on Saturday, December 2 at 7:00 PM when they play host to conference foe, UMASS-Boston. St. Mike's is also home that same day, and will host Southern Maine in conference action. The teams will swap partners in Sunday afternoon tilts.
