Eric Ramey

Eric Ramey will be in the 10th season of his second stint at Castleton and 13th overall in 2024. Ramey led the program to its first-ever North Atlantic Conference Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016.

Ramey's 2023 team reached it's highest win total since joining the Little East Conference, finishing 20-16 (9-7 in LEC play) en route to the fourth seed in the LEC Tournament where they fell one game short of a trip to the championship. Five Spartans were named to All-Conference Teams, with Hannah Mosher, Olivia Joy, and Samera Rideout all landing on the First Team while Alex Brouillette and Alexis Rogers claimed spots on the All-Rookie Team.

The 2022 season was Ramey's most successful since joining the Little East Conference in 2019, finishing 19-16 (8-8 in LEC play) before falling just one game shy of reaching the conference tournament finals. A quartet of Spartans earned postseason recognition, with Kate LaPan garnering All-Conference First Team honors, while Allison Almond, Hannah Mosher, and Jamie Boyle all earning a spot on the Second Team. LaPan also became the first player in program history to be named to the NFCA All-Region First Team.

Ramey's 2021 Spartans started 5-0 and reached the LEC playoffs for the first time. The season was highlighted by a win over then-undefeated Eastern Connecticut State, who was ranked third in the country at the time. Freshman pitcher Katie Gallagher earned Second Team All-LEC honors.

The 2020 edition got off to a hot start before seeing the season cut short. The Spartans had won five of their first six games, averaging nearly 10 runs per game.

In its first season in the Little East, Castleton softball finished 15-17 (4-10 in conference) while landing two players on the LEC All-Conference Second-Team.

Castleton made another trip to the NAC Tournament in 2018 following a 7-3 record in conference play. Under Ramey's guidance, five Spartans were named to NAC All-Conference Teams.

The Spartans returned to the NAC Tournament title round in 2017 after finishing second in the regular-season standings with a 10-2 league record. Castleton posted a 20-10-1 overall mark, its second straight 20-win season, and was led by NAC Player of the Year Timi Carone and NAC Pitcher of the Year Kayla Wood as well as three other All-NAC honorees.

During the 2016 season, the Spartans went 20-11 during the regular season, culminating with a three-game sweep of the NAC Tournament and the program’s first conference title. Castleton had a lead in all three of their NCAA Tournament games, highlighted by a 9-1 victory over Keuka in their second contest. The team finished at 21-13 overall, the best win percentage since 2005.  Ramey had five players earn First-Team All-Conference honors as his team led the NAC in early every hitting and pitching category during the season. Senior Jessica Babcock earned Player of the Year honors and became the first Spartan to earn All-Region honors from the NFCA.

In 2015, he led the Spartans to the top seed in the North Atlantic Conference Tournament for the first time in program history. His team finished the year with a 19-12 mark, the team’s best winning percentage in eight years. He had five different players named all-conference, including three first-team all-conference performers.

A 1991 graduate of Plattsburgh State, Ramey has been the Director of Athletics and Activities at nearby Fair Haven Union High School since 2006. Ramey was also the Head Softball Coach at Fair Haven from 1994-97 and was the Head Girls' Basketball Coach from 1995-2006.

In 2003 Ramey took over a Castleton softball program which had gone 28-31 over the previous three seasons and piloted the Spartans to 54 wins over the next three years, highlighted by a 22-9 season in 2005.
