Entering his ninth season as head coach of the men’ssoccer program, Werner piloted the Spartans to an undefeated NorthAtlantic Conference season in 2010, and earned his third NAC Coachof the Year award. He has led the Spartans to three North AtlanticConference (NAC) Championships – 2004, 2007, 2008 – andthree NCAA Division III Tournament berths.
Werner has coached three NAC Players of the Year, and producedmultiple all-conference players. In addition to conference honors,Werner's teams have consistently produced members of the NationalSoccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region teams, aswell as NSCAA Scholar-Athletes and NAC All-Academic recipients.
Along with all of those honors, Werner’s clubs have earnedtwo Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) New EnglandTournament bids and two NAC All-Sportsmanship awards.
Werner is the All-time winningest coach in Vermont high schoolhistory, earning a 346-108-31 mark in 31 seasons at ArlingtonMemorial High School.
Werner was named NFICA National Coach of the Year in 1995, NSCAANew England High School Coach of the Year four times, was asix-time VSCA Vermont High School Coach of the Year and five-timeMarble Valley League Coach of the Year.
He is also a member of the Vermont Principals Association Hallof Fame.
Coach Werner lives in Arlington, Vermont with his wife of over30 years, Judy (Castleton, '73). The couple has two children, sonJK (Bates '98) and daughter Jordan (UVM '10).
He spends his summer months involved with many camps throughoutNew England, including the Spartan Soccer Camp, held at Castletonin July.
