CANTON, N.Y. – The Vermont State University Castleton baseball team fell 13-3 to St. Lawrence in Wednesday's non-conference contest across the border.

How it Happened:
The Spartans were on the board first as
Tripp Shytle reached first base on an error with two runners on, allowing
Sebastian Vazquez to cross home for a 1-0 Castleton lead at the top of the third inning. The Saints fired back with a double to tie the game at one before Castleton took the lead back at the top of the fourth.
Alex McClelland was walked with the bases loaded as the Spartans took a 2-1 lead.
At the bottom of the fifth, St. Lawrence exploded for seven runs as they took their first lead of the day (8-2).
Tommie Shaw notched his ninth double of the season, pulling in McClelland as the Spartans trailed by five (8-3) at the conclusion of the top half of the eighth inning. The Saints added four more runs on the board in the bottom half of the sixth, before collecting the final run of the game at the bottom of the eighth. The Spartans had one last push at the top of the ninth, but went down in order to end up on the wrong side of the 13-3 final score.
Top Performers:
- Shaw and Turner Clews led the team with two hits each.
- Josh Misiaszek made his second career appearance on the mound, notching his first two career strikeouts.

The Spartans head to UMass Boston for a Little East Conference doubleheader with the Beacons on Saturday, April 11. Game one is set for 12 p.m. with game two to follow.
